‘Serbian Gold’ is a compact quince characterised by oval leaves featuring grey, downy undersides. Come spring, it adorns itself with delicate white to pale pink blossoms, eventually giving way to delectable, roundish, aromatic yellow fruits, perfect for harvest in early autumn. The large, aromatic, golden-hued fruit can be transformed into exquisite jellies and mouth watering desserts.
When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Ensure newly planted quince trees receive ample watering during their initial growing season. Prune in late winter or early spring, removing diseased, damaged, congested or crossing shoots. Shoots that are growing in unwanted directions can also be pruned out.
